Yamunotri Gangotri Yatra Package

Yamunotri is the source of the Yamuna River, one of the most revered rivers in Hindu mythology. Situated at an altitude of 3,293 meters (10,804 feet) in the Garhwal Himalayas, it is considered the westernmost shrine of the Char Dham circuit.

Gangotri is the source of the holy Ganges River, one of the most sacred rivers in Hinduism. Situated at an altitude of 3,048 meters (10,000 feet), Gangotri is the second-most important pilgrimage site in the Char Dham Yatra and is located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.

Highlights

  • Yamunotri Temple Sacred Site: The primary attraction is the Yamunotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. The temple, built in the 19th century, is a small but sacred structure made of stone and copper. It sits at the foot of the Bandarpunch Peak, surrounded by awe-inspiring mountain views. Legend and Mythology: According to Hindu mythology, Yamuna is the sister of Yama, the God of Death. It is believed that a pilgrimage to Yamunotri can cleanse one's sins and offer protection from untimely death.
  • Hot Springs: The Surya Kund is a thermal spring near the temple, famous for its high-temperature waters. Pilgrims traditionally cook rice and potatoes wrapped in cloth by dipping them into the hot spring water as part of a ritual offering to the Goddess.
  • Challenging Journey: To reach the Yamunotri Temple, pilgrims must undertake a 5 km (3-mile) trek from the town of Hanuman Chatti. The trail is scenic but can be steep, making the journey physically demanding yet spiritually rewarding. Alternative Options: For those unable to trek, there are palanquins or ponies available to help cover the distance.
  • Glacial Source: The actual source of the Yamuna River is the Yamunotri Glacier, which is located further upstream. It is an important site for trekkers and adventure enthusiasts, but due to the challenging terrain, it’s not commonly visited by pilgrims.
  • Mountains and Meadows: The area is surrounded by snow-capped peaks, lush green meadows, and dense forests, making it a peaceful and picturesque destination. The lush landscapes provide a stunning contrast to the serene pilgrimage atmosphere.
  • Gangotri Temple Sacred Pilgrimage Spot: The Gangotri Temple is dedicated to Goddess Ganga, who is believed to have descended to Earth at this location. The temple was constructed in the 18th century by a Gorkha king, and it remains an important site for devotees who come to seek divine blessings. Religious Significance: It is believed that by visiting Gangotri, pilgrims can absolve themselves of all sins, as the Ganges' waters are considered purifying.
  • Gaumukh Glacier: The actual source of the Ganges is the Gaumukh Glacier, located about 18 kilometers (11 miles) from Gangotri. This glacier is believed to be the spot where Goddess Ganga first appeared when she descended from the heavens. A trek to Gaumukh is a challenging but spiritually enriching journey, attracting trekkers and adventurers alike. Trek to Gaumukh: The trek to Gaumukh offers beautiful views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks, alpine meadows, and the Bhagirathi River.
  • Sacred River: The Bhagirathi River is the name given to the Ganges as it flows from the source at Gangotri. This river holds immense significance, as it is associated with King Bhagirath, who is said to have performed intense penance to bring the river down to Earth for the salvation of his ancestors.
  • Majestic Peaks: Gangotri is surrounded by majestic Himalayan peaks, including the Bhagirathi Group of Peaks, which provide a stunning backdrop to the temple and surrounding area. Forests and Flora: The region is also known for its beautiful deodar forests, alpine meadows, and a rich variety of flora and fauna, making it a serene and peaceful retreat for nature lovers.
  • Kedar Taal: For trekkers and nature lovers, the Kedar Taal lake, located near Gangotri, is a beautiful destination. The lake offers a magnificent view of the surrounding peaks and is accessible via a moderate trek. Harsil Village: A charming village located near Gangotri, Harsil is famous for its apple orchards and scenic beauty. It is often visited by tourists seeking a quiet retreat before continuing on their pilgrimage.
